Summary
The Group Respiration tool allows caregivers to record respirations on multiple animals at one time. These metrics typically are used with marine mammals, mainly cetaceans, and involve tracking how many breaths are taken in a five minute period.
To use the Group Respiration tool:
- Click on "Group Respiration " within the Animal menu from the left-hand Navigator panel.
- Modify the date and time if necessary (these values will default to current date and time).
- Select the Area of the animals you are recording respirations for.
- Click on an animal from the Animals column that you want included in your group respiration, and then click the arrow button pointing to the right
to add that animal to the Selected list. Repeat this process until all the animals you want to record respirations for are listed in the Selected column.
TIP: If you want to select all the animals from the Animals list, click on the double arrow button and all animals from the selected Area will be moved to the Selected column.
- Click the Start Respiration Count button.
- Click on the Start button for the stopwatch to initiate the 5 minute countdown timer.
- Click on the blue tally buttons
each time the corresponding animal takes a breath. You can also key in a number directly inside the field if required. - When the 5 minute period is over, confirm each respiration (these can be manually changed if necessary) and click on the "Submit" button.
NOTE: If you are recording a respiration that is outside of your Facility's configured "threshold range", you will be prompted to select that animal's activity level and write a comment. See image below. Also see Respiration Rate Threshold Alert for more about this feature.
